I use my iPad for everything except word processing. I need to use a mouse when creating documents. Would buying a chrome book be a good answer for me ? Will a chrome book give me Word or another word processor ?

Chromebooks use Google's Chrome browser as a kind of 'operating system'. You can get all kinds of office-type apps on Google Play, but you won't be able to use MS Word or any other application offered by Microsoft (except special apps like Groove and Cortana).

I don't know if Google will allow office suites like Open Office or Libre Office - these are full-sized office suites and free of charge - but from what I've heard from Chromebook users, Google's office apps seem OK. Obviously they're not as massive as MS Office, say, but they will run on a much lighter computer in terms of weight, hardware specs and price.
