Chrome consuming too much CPU

Hey!

I recently reinstalled Windows and now I can't seem to play World of Warcraft AND have a Twitch stream on Source quality(720p or 1080p) without losing a lot of FPS on WoW(dual monitor setup). Before the reinstall I lost next to no FPS and could have both run happily, now I lose about 25-40 FPS just by having the Twitch tab as the current tab.

CPU usage with the Twitch Tab open ranges from 50 to 75% alone, that is with a i5-2500k @ 4.3GHz. The only thing that did change from the current install to previous is that I found out 1 of my RAM sticks had died so I'm running at 4GB instead of 8GB. Memory usage is at 30-40% with just the Twitch tab open and up to 75-85% with World of Warcraft open too.

I've tried turning off all addons for Chrome and tried to toggle/untoggle hardware acceleration.

What's up with my Chrome?

I think it might be because of your ram.
it sounds like you had a dual channel ram kit, and one of the sticks died. Now you have a dual channel ram stick that is missing it's partner so it isnt really 100% sure how to work good.

You'll probably need to get a new dual channel ram kit and take out the old one as well (mixing sticks like that is a bad idea)

Yeah it was a dual channel kit, I already have a new kit ordered(Kingston HyperX 2x 4GB 1600MHz). So the RAM replacement should solve the issue? Also an off-question, when I do put in the new RAM, do I need to do something or will the PC recognize it automatically and work as it should?

It should be as simple as pull out the old plug in the new, just make sure you put them in matching color slots (both in black it seems).
Ram is one of the easiest things to upgrade in a computer.

Oh uhh, one problem, the your CPU only supports ram speeds up to 1333, so your kingston ram may not work perfect, or it may just get clocked down to 1333.

Well the issue is that the store where I got the RAM doesn't offer the 1333MHz version(and it costs 15€ MORE than the 1600MHz version for whatever damn reason) so I'd have to wait a few weeks since 1333MHz is not a very common RAM clock speed these days. They have listed over 25 of the 1600MHz kits and none of the 1333MHz kits as currently available

I wouldn't care about the downclock since RAM speeds don't matter in gaming, just that it would work, even if I would just have to adjust a setting in BIOS.

Yeah, underclocking the ram "shouldn't" be a problem but it could be a problem, so don't worry to much, and just know that you have a culprit if you encounter any issues.
