Clashing between Norton and Avast!

I recently got a new notebook and I put avast! on it. It had norton internet security already on it. I now get a message saying that I should uninstall one to provide stability. Both are free versions, could someone advice me which one to get rid off or if to get rid of both and get something better? Free preferably.

I've been using avast for several years, so I'm a little biased towards it. Both are good products, but as stated, you should only have one active virus scanner installed on your computer at a time. At the very least, real time scanning should be disabled on all but one of the programs.

With 2 active virus scanners you're lucky it boots at all. Either disable one of the scanners (you'll have to run manual scans with that package) or uninstall one. Either way you can only have one active scanner installed.
