Clunking noise from Asus ROG Laptop

Hello,

I bought an Asus ROG Laptop from a buddy used, and it's been working great for about a year. Recently, the laptop has begun making this thumping or clunking noise on the upper left side. I have opened up the laptop and cleaned it, and everything appears to work okay, but the thumping noise continues. I'm afraid it may be the hard drive going, but I don't want to assume the worst. Any help is greatly appreciated. Model is the ROG G750JW.

Does it make the noise when you are in the BIOS?

My suggestion would be to back up the data stored on the hard drive ASAP. After that, you can just test it and see what is wrong with it: http/www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
