Code 43 after driver update

I have a Sager NP9370.
GTX 680m SLI
Windows 8.1 pro
Currently running driver 335.23 This is what driver the laptop came with in Nov 2012.
I have not updated it because every time I do get a code 43 on the 2nd card and lose the Nvidia control panel and SLI.
I decided it's time I need to get this thing updated. Currently trying to install 344.75

The device manager sees both GPU displays them both correctly. The 2nd one in the list has the code 43 error.
I figure it has to be the new driver install. When I do the new install I click the clean install option.
With the old driver SLI works just fine.
Any ideas?

Error code 43 is a driver error. Did you install any
optional Windows Updates (such as graphics
driver)? If so uninstall the graphics driver update,
reboot and then reinstall the Nvidia driver..

So I had 335.23 in the device manager
It was showing 337.88 in the control panel uninstall programs which I couldn't take out there.
I used DDU in safe mode and removed both drivers.
In safe mode reinstalled new 344.75 drivers.
When I get back to regular mode still have the same issue.
One card shows code 43. The NVidia control panel wont start says no NVidia card installed.
The GeForce experience picks up a single GPU.
It cant be hardware. When I roll back the driver both cards work fine.
Is there something I'm missing with a driver install and SLI maybe?
