when i mark a task complete on the desktop side, it doesn't sync over to the
pda, so the pda still shows the task as active. if i mark it complete on the
pda side, then it does sync over to the desktop. any way to get it to work
both directions?

in activesync in the options it shows the direction of sync applied-
either from pc to ppc or from ppc to pc. There isn't an option pointing
both ways so you'll have to change as needed to show the direction you
wish to apply. I guess you could look at the alternative sync programs
that are regularly mentioned in the ng but I don't know if they work
any differently in this aspect.

Tasks and all types of data are sync both ways, what you have been looking
at is the rules apllied when there are a conflict.

I figured out that it was because I had selected the option to sync only
incomplete tasks.

I want to keep a record of completed tasks on the desktop, but not waste pda
memory storing all the completed tasks. I had thought this setting would
allow me to keep all active tasks on the pda and that it would delete tasks
from the pda that became complete.

Instead, as soon as a task becomes complete on the desktop, active sync
ignores it and therefore doesn't bother to tell the pda to delete it or even
that it is complete. The same funny thing happens when i ask to sync only
the last two week and all future weeks of active tasks.

Seems like a useless setting, unless someone can explain to me how it can be
useful???

Hello,

I had the same problem -and ended up with this "trick":

do not try to sync only incompleted tasks, it creates the result you've
experienced. Instead, create a category "completed" on you PC, put all your
completed tasks in this category and lastly, choose the option to sync only
choosen categories, and *do not* select this one.

'hope this helps!

-Sylvain.

Sylvain,

It's interesting that that trick would work. One would think it would have
the same problem and not be sync'd over to the pda as soon as it was put
into the completed catagory.

I didn't try it however; I had another idea.

I created a completed subfolder under tasks and moved the items into there.
they were removed from the pda because active sync doesn't recognize
subfolders, it seems.

Now I can choose which ones to remove from the PDA and which to keep there.
