I have a interesting question and was wondering if you
could give me some advice or tell me what is going on
you see I have a Laptop with Windows 7 on it that I use
just for messing around online, surf the web, watch youtube
videos just regular stupid things but lately it started
acting a bit funny (as to what it was doing more on that below)
so I thought where I had it for about 7 years now I would
wipe it clean and reinstall Windows and give it a fresh start.
So I did that I completely formatted it and did a fresh install
of Windows 7.
I then went and did all the Microsoft updates and reinstalled
the programs I wanted to use (which aren't many) and of course
Norton and updated that and everything was installed and up to date
but the problems persisted..?
I have run full system scans as well as used Norton Power Eraser
but nothing came up in the scans its totally clean??
now what is it doing?
many things infarct..
1. The shift key (especially on the left hand side) seems
to have been changed to the Backspace key
2. The down arrow key seems like someone is holding it down all
the time.
3. The Left mouse button seems to be changed to the Delete key
I can't click or double click on anything with out it asking
me to confirm the delete
4. In order to close the "Confirm delete" box I have to
click on No or the X multiple times.
5. if Number 4 doesn't work and I go into the Windows task manager
to end the "Confirm delete" application windows explorer seems
to crash and restart.
6. Also if I go into Windows Task Manager and click the processes
tab and just wait less then a minute a window will pop up
saying "do you want to end.." and will have the process
that is highlighted no matter what it is.
I also won't be able to close this window because it will keeps
popping up. The only way to close the window is if I rapidly press the
up arrow key for a few seconds then I'll be able to close the window
7. That is what I noticed when this stuff is going on all I seem to have
to oddly do is rapidly press the up arrow key for a few seconds then
whatever is causing this will stop for a short time?

So what is this? is it Malware? if so Why didn't Norton stop/detect it?
is it just the computer getting old? it can't be faulty Keyboard/mouse
I used 2 different ones.. is it Gremlins? a Ghost in the Machine?
what could possibly be causing this?

PS. before you mention it, No nothing was spilled on it
no liquids or food came in contact with the laptop keyboard.

Solution
Try this...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

If this doesn't work, you may wish to try connecting an external keyboard and see if it works fine. If it does, then it could be the keys themselves that are the issue.

You may also want to try updating the Synaptics Driver if the above doesn't help.
