So, I have an interesting problem (or perhaps a simple problem; I don't know much too much about fixing computers). About a week ago, my computers topped producing any sound through the speakers or the front audio jack.
I've tried a few basic solutions, like trying to update the sound driver (it appears to be up to date), restarting, shutting down completely and waiting a while before restarting, running the Windows Audio FixIt! tool, etc.
The interesting part is this: this laptop came installed with one of those audio control programs (IDT HD Sound), and it seems to think that there is sound output happening, as indicated by the equalizer bars moving around. However, the volume slider and Mixer are not registering any sound output.
Here are the computer details that might be useful:
OS: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - 64-bit
Laptop Model: HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC
If you need any other information, just ask and I'll try to find it.
