Every now and then, my laptop will turn to a black screen, the fan will start to run really hard, then it will completely turn off like a force shutdown. It stopped after a while, but just incase it could be fatal in the future, is there any processes I could take to fix/prevent other problems related to this?

Solution
This is indicative of an overload on the CPU which in turn causes the fan to run faster. If the fan is unable to control the heat produced the safety systems of the CPU will turn the computer OFF in order to prevent damage.

There is some program, maybe a PUP (potential unwanted program) that is causing this. You can try downloading and running "PC Decrapifier" to clean up many unwanted programs that PC manufacturers load in along with new computers.

Don't forget frequent and regular anti-virus scans, and always make backups to an external disk.
