I am on my 4th day as an HDTV (Mits WD525525) owner and have yet to see
something, anything broadcast OTA. I bought the receiver primarily for NFL
and NASCAR coverage but I expected to see some network shows by now.
I put up a Channel Master deep fringe antenna and also have Direct TV (non
HD)
I have camped out on CH4 (Fox) but don't understand the local affiliate's
attitude."We may not carry the NASCAR races in HD"
I also can't find the CH4 offset HD channel. There is a
5-1,8-1 and 11-1 but no 4-1.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks for helping.

As for the channel number, there is the real channel and then the channel
that the local channel may redirect. Let's say that FOX analog is channel 9
in your area. And, let's say that their digital channel is 23. You might
be able to tune to 23-1, 23-2, etc. for to get FOX, or they may redirect
that channel back to 9-1, 9-2, etc. because it is more familiar. This
redirect is just extra information that comes along with the channel so that
your tuner can use the more familiar channel number.

I live in the DFW area and have a Samsung ts360 receiver. The Fox digital
channel shows up as 4-1 on my receiver and they do broadcast in HD at least
for NFL games. No idea what your problem is but the Fox digital channel is
being broadcast.

Have you checked www.antennaweb.org for a list of stations in your
area that have digital channels? However, just because they are digital,
does not mean they are set to broadcast HD. Another place to find
information about your local stations is the Dallas - Ft. Worth thread
somewhere at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=45.

Finally, just to be sure, you are using the ATSC tuner to receive the
OTA TV, not the analog NTSC, correct?

I also live in the area (Ft. Worth) and use a Ratshack double bowtie
that feeds into my DTC100 HD receiver to watch the Fox and CBS HD
stations. Fox, I believe, is channel 35 and CBS is 19. NBC......can't
remember and they don't seem to broadcast much of what I want to watch
on HD anyway (except occasionally Leno). ABC is, I believe, a VHF
broadcast for HD but my antenna is UHF only. One of these days I'll
get off my lazy butt and add a VHF antenna. You'll need to make sure
you have the antenna pointed properly. I believe there is an antenna
farm in Duncanville/Desoto area so that's where you'll want to point
first. Antennaweb.org can help you there.

Did you setup your OTA by running the digital channel setup program in your
TV set? In order to get digital channels OTA, this is the first thing you
have to do. Get your antenna connected and pointed in the direction you
think it should be pointed, then go into your TV set's SETUP menu, to
CHANNELS and then, with your TV set's INPUT set to your antenna input, run
the program that finds digital channels. It will take awhile, then tell you
how many digital channels it has found. You can then browse through them
and HIDE the ones that don't really show you anything. You should be able
to get plenty of digital channels in the DFW market and some of those will
be broadcasting HDTV part-time.

All this is assuming that your TV set has an internal digital / HDTV tuner.
If it is, on the other hand, "HDTV READY", you will have to use a cable box
or separate OTA tuner to receive the HDTV channels.

Thanks for all the information. I am watching the NBC innagural coverage in
HD which is excellent and I think I have a handle on the offsets and the
redirecting but I can't get CH4 HD. I get everyting else and I alinged the
antenna with a compass.
Guess I should look on ch 35 for ch4 HD. How confusing.

When you say you put up a "deep fringe" antenna, does that mean you are on
the edged of reception? If that is the case, you may not get some of the
channels.

Otherwise, there are -1 and -2 channels, like 8-2 (news) 21-2 (weather
radar). Most of the channels have a -1 and sometimes a -2. 11-1 seems to
have the most HD programming. I use a normal OTA antenna, although some
channels I get only has about a 45-50% signal strength.

How are your running the Antenna to the HD receiver?

DFW is a great HDTV place....many channels to get from religion to shopping
in HDTV.....you should get signal from Fox easily....I live in Midcitys area
in Bedford, no problem getting everything on a Sony tv with built in
reciever and hooked to a 20 dollar roof antenna....same can be said for my
bother in Allen and parents in Frisco....I would reset the TV receiving
programing mode again and see if it will catch Fox ....Fox is by far the
best HD channel by far with 13.1 Public in second.. Fox football is way
cool, the best there can be, thankgoodness the Super Bowl is on
Fox.....remember that HD programing is only on for the most part during the
night after 7 when full 16:9 ....news and other programs before 7 are still
in standard format with bars on each side but really clear, so clear you see
Tracy Rollins looks like a train wreak but Christy and other girls look
fine...good luck...

Sounds like you have a bonafide complaint to file with the FCC.

go to www.titantv.com and plug in your address. Check out what's on HDTV
and tune in a channel. You will then see HDTV

Correct, Dallas is a huge market for TV and now Digital. I used to be
a TV man and installed antennas for years in Garland. Years ago
everything pointed to Cedar Hill. I think it still does except for a
few, couple, uhf and denton, tx on channel 2.

All digital stations in Dallas, Fort Worth are on UHF with the
exception of channel 8. I show from a 1998 FCC web information they
may by on 8.1 Im assuming this, they may be digitally on UHF by now.

I'm almost sure all the Fort Worth stations are still located also in
Cedar Hill. Any mid range UHF pointed correctly using a compass and a
map should work great. Do remember you have to allow the TV to search
for the digital channels from the menu. Enjoy the networks, this is
gong to be a fun year for Hi Def.

Check out this site below to compare your local digital channels.
Look for Dallas then page down to Fort Worth for the listings and
power.

Thanks for all the replies.
Ed Kellum's guys intialized the receiver and gave me an education on how to
scan for DTV signals.
The innauguration looked great so I know the receiver is working. It's CH4
Fox that bugs me.They will be carrying the first 1/2 of the NASCAR season
and all of those races will originate in HD.
I guess I will have to wait to see if CH4 will transmit the races in HD.
