How can i hook up my old sony s530d dvd player to newer emerdpn 32 inch flat screen

DVD player has composite video plus analog audio output.
Without the model of your TV we can't know what connections it has.
If it has a composite or shared component composite video audio input then use that. Check the TV manual on details.
If it only has HDMI then your options are to buy an active AV to HDMI converter or a new DVD with HDMI. I would get a new DVD or better yet a blueray. You will get a much better picture.
