Connect sound bar to tv & DVD

Hi I have a new Samsung HW-M360 sound bar that uses an optical cable or an Aux. I have a 2010 model LG tv that takes optical or HDMI cable. It tells me to connect the optical from the sound bar to the DVD player plus an aux cable to both. I’ve tried that, but then I have to connect the DVD to the tv. I’ve used a HDMI but that doesn’t work. I’ve tried the tri colour aux cord that doesn’t work. I’ve tried the optical from the sound bar to the tv, nothing works! Can anyone please help?

I don't see any reason why you should be connecting your DVD player to your soundbar.

The DVD player connects to the TV. The TV connects to the soundbar.

You may have to turn the optical output on, turn the TV speakers off, and change the audio output type in the TV menu.
Then select the optical input on the soundbar. You only need one audio connection from the TV to the soundbar.
