Connecting a new(ish) laptop to an old monitor

I have an ASUS TP300L laptop and want to connect 2 monitors to it. The laptop has 3 usb ports and 1 hdmi. The monitors I plan to use are quite old and have a D-sub port and a DVI port. What cables and adaptors will I need to connect the monitors to my laptop?

If the monitors DVI ports are DVI-I or DVI-D then all you will need is a cheap passive HDMI to DVI adapter. If not then you will need a bit more expensive Active adapter to convert the digital signal to either analog VGA or analog DVI-A formats
