Connecting two computer to one wire adapter

I have a wireless adapter can i connect another computer to it so the other person laptop can have a internet connection

You may be able to via Windows Internet Access sharing. See Windows Help -- you'll need a crossover version of an ethernet cable between the two machines.

Frankly, installing a wireless adapter in the laptop wouldn't cost much more than a long crossover cable -- and is a more flexible solution.
