Hello. My mom's laptop got stolen and now I'm looking for a replacement. I'm not very computer savvy and figured it would be best to go with a new purchase rather than used or refurbished to avoid any hiccups that may occur.

So the Acer C710 was pretty much the cheapest laptop/netbook I could find. My mom only ever used her laptop for excel work, email and video streams. The main concern is the excel work. From what I can understand, you can't install Microsoft software on this (if any software at all). So how well would the interaction between excel files and google docs work?

Or perhaps there's an alternative I could look at?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any of your suggestions online that I could purchase within the country (Malaysia). Looking around I think I've boiled it down to these three:

ACER ASPIRE E E1-432-29554G50 14" LAPTOP/ NOTEBOOK
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/acer-aspire-v5-132-10192g50-11-6-laptop-notebook-15430.html

ACER ASPIRE V5-132-10192G50 11.6" LAPTOP/ NOTEBOOK
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/acer-aspire-v5-132-10192g50-11-6-laptop-notebook-15430.html

Acer Aspire V5 Series 12-inch V5-132-10192G50b
http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/Acer,Aspire,V5,Series,12,inch,V5,132,10192G50b,Icy,Blue,Windows,8,Acer,Warranty,,402890.php?prod=402890

I'm leaning more towards the 14" one simply because of the larger screen size, but longevity and general stability would be top priority. Could I have your opinion on these please?

I think that Celeron processor is quite weak. If you are willing to spend some mor, you can get much better processor.

ACER ASPIRE E E1-470-33214G50
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/acer-aspire-e-e1-470-33214g50-14-laptop-notebook.html

OR, YOU can get one cheaper than the one you listed, with a better processor.

LENOVO G400S G SERIES 59392001

Actually another reason I picked those choices is they come with Windows 8.1. Don't really care that it's windows, just that it's an OS so I don't have to shell out more money to get one.

I suppose I'll go with the Lenovo G400s and install Ubuntu on it. Thanks for your help vinaykumar!
