Can the replayTV automatically turn my cable box on/off for recording
purposes via the IR blaster, or I do I have to leave the cable box on
(or use cable box's own on/off timers) ?

(In selecting an IR blaster code during set up, the replayTV was able
to turn the cable box on--yet it doesn't appear to turn the box on for
a scheduled recording!)

Could I have selected the wrong IR code?

Thanks,
Dave

The box must be on.

You leave the cable box "on". Replay sends channel selection codes
only. Using the box's own timers just complicates things.

Note that this 'power' thing is largely a lie (except on the TV, turn
that off) and has almost no effect on power consumption. There's no
harm in leaving it "on".

Maybe because of the extra time some boxes take to respond to "on",
before allowing another command. Anyway, there's no liability in
leaving it "on".

Possibly,but no codes send "on"/"off".
