[citation][nom]camopantsal[/nom]Well as far as I can see, this opens plenty of doors for having the case tossed out of court. If this activity is what the LEO is doing, who is to say that there was not other activity that was say more scrupulous such as planting or altering evidence? I mean come on, I work security detail and it's boring but to be paid as a LEO to play games on a alledged criminal's WII while on an investigation....REALLY that person has no place in policing.[/citation]
This is what I've been trying to say but for some reason we got all these pro-lazy cops on the topic thumbing me down.

The reason for you being thumbed down is for calling police officers "pigs"; if you are outraged by the conduct of officers in the article you can make your point without being insulting (the same goes to some responders to your post).

As for officers playing Wii games while serving a search warrant this shows their lack of professionalism (and in our country an breach of the search warrant), but this is hardly a reason for throwing out possibly collected evidence or even the entire case against the suspect's.

Well if there is downtime it is understandable that they'd want to do something to kill the time. It is still embarrassing to the department, but only because we make it so.

*sigh*

At all of you who think it's cool to negatively comment to the article or others, you're wrong.

It doesn't make you a bigger, better or more intelligent person so cease and desist.

Facts:
YES it IS wrong for the officers to play the Wii games on a crime scene.
YES the officers in question should get an official reprimand or at the least a small fine for doing this.

NO the case should not be dismissed because of this since the people in question did have illegal firearms, drugs and or other illegal substances or illegitimately acquired goods in their possession/stored away in their home.

Furthermore I believe that if you want to truly be wise you should try to refrain from commenting if you have nothing positive to add.
(directed at doomtomb, camopantsal and even montezuma)

Other than that, this should never have happened quite obviously. Shame on the officers involved and it should never happen again.
In this case no innocents were hurt and the crime scene wasn't contaminated, but matters could have escalated and this is just something that should not be tolerated.

Bottom line, don't cry over spilled milk. Just make sure you don't spill the milk again.

My two cents,

Mike

You people think they are superman? You never take a break? Always working non stop? Extra hours are your life? Give me a break. I bet that 95% of all who wrote comments here stay on internet at work more than they should. As for the cops? I agree that what they did is not quite appropriate, but seem very human to me, as humans tend to do things that are not appropriate when not constrained by environment, rules etc. And for those of you who dream about the Captain America type of cop ... I would tell you that such cops probably hide big problems behind the curtain. We all have our demons, and the "play Wii in the suspect's house" demon is so much smaller than "take money from bad people" demon, or other cop corruption type. So give me a break. An by the way ... I HATE lawyers that say "My client is innocent because the cops played with his Wii". They are much much worse than these unfortunate guys.

Good thing the cops involved weren't drug-testing an Olympic athlete. Then the defence would be:

"Your honour, I would like to see this case dismissed as my client's Wii was tampered with".

This is typical of the police force in and around the central Florida area. I have lived here most of my life and this is just typical Florida police. Yes, it is wrong, mainly cause well the Wii and the big screen t.v., based on the reports of drug activity, could have been bought with the drug money which in turn makes them evidence and these dumb cops are now tampering with it.

However, this is by far not the worst thing any cop anywhere has ever done. I mean the played a few games on Wii it's not like the beat up a guy in a wheelchair (that has happened here not to long ago) or get busted for child porn (that was this month http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/orl-bk-fhp-trooper-arrest-092209,0,3606931.story). But oh, how dare they quick launch an investigation and waste more tax payer money. All for what a few games on a Wii?

At least thats my opinion.

Well, at least this time they have an extra reason to think of not keeping/reselling the drugs they found since they had their time with the Wii? It's pathetic of them playing Wii over there but how more sad for them knowing that whatever theiy found , fuck knows who's hands it will end up in.

just because they were there on a warrant doesn't give them the right to use another person's property. that they were there for 9 hours has no bearing on the fact that they were using a suspect's equipment, some of which may be part of the crime they were there for! take your break elsewhere!

that the supposed police officers, active or otherwise in the readership, would take offense to a epithet is exactly the reason they should not be police officers. it's your job to deal with the unruly and scum of the earth... you're not supposed to stoop to their level. if you can't handle that aspect of the job, you're not worthy of the rest of the duties a law officer must endure. thugs come with and without badges.

Another persons property? It wasn't their property either. Try reading the article next time. The gaming system and tv were both stolen property. They were merely making sure it was still operational for the original owners. LOL.
