If using a splitter with DirectTV do I split after I hook up to the receiver or us the splitter first? I'm confused what can it split if it's not hooked to the receiver? Diagrams suggesting hook up say use the splitter from the outside line, then split to 2/or more devices?

Solution
If you are trying to connect a single DTV receiver to two TVs then you will need to connect a 1 to 2 HDMI distribution amplifier (not a passive cable) at the HDMI output of the DTV box. Then you connect each TV to the two HDMI outputs on the distribution amp.
If the TVs have different resolutions the DTV box will default to the lower one.

Solution
Need more clarity on what you are doing.

Are you wanting 2 TVs to show the same picture, or are you wanting to have 2 TVs watch 2 different channels with the same DVR?
If the second one then need to know reciever model to see if you have this ability or not.
