Correct Memory placement

I just bought a toshiba qosmio x875-q7380 and it has been taken apart and I am wondering if the memory and hard drives have to be installed in any specific slot or does it matter

All computer parts are designed only to fit in one place - the proper place. If you feel the need to use a hammer, you're putting something somewhere it isn't supposed to go

Memory expansion is best done with matched pairs. Slot makes no difference.but use two adjacent slots.
Hard drives can be installed in any slot

If I remember rightly, that model had two 1TB hard drives and the operating system should be on the right but download a service manual to be certain.
