Same for the ACC tournament. 3G was almost unuable in the Georgia Dome although it showed full strength. I had to switch to Edge to get data in there. Seem like everyone in their had a iphone.

Are you serious? Im still and have been tethering with my 4 year old HTC 6700. Just another reason why Iphones suck. Welcome to 2005.

I'm not worried in the slightest, and eventually, we're going to have a push for bigger, faster, stronger, better phones and other technology. Somewhere, 30 years down the road in the middle years of my iLife I think we'll all look back and laugh at how anyone could have survived without retinal implants that include an operating system and 500 yottabytes of storage for our music libraries and holovids.

Seriously though, look back 10 years. 1999. I don't know about you guys, but when I open up a computer more than six months old, I'm instantly amused and interested in dissecting it. When I open one a decade old, I geek out like man staring at his ancient predecessors. Just five years ago the idea of dual core processors was a new and almost unbelievable technology to anybody but an industry insider. Back then most of us couldn't have imagined a phone with the capabilities of the iPhone, and I personally couldn't have believed I'd finally have a real all-in-one device that didn't suck and I could carry everywhere. We'll be laughing about this in another few weeks or months, and in a decade people will think you're out of your mind for imagining your 500TB iPhone 6G won't be able to handle the new 1.5TB/sec network speeds.

Jesus, people lose perspective so easily.

Also, this is not the platform to spew your whiny garbage about how you hate the establishment. I've used most of the major companies. Yeah, AT&T sucks. So does Verizon. So does Sprint. So do all the rest. Know why? They're greedy crap companies which all have one thing in common: they're cellular companies, and they've been bad certainly for as long as I can remember. Stop whining. I feel like I'm sitting in a circle with a bunch of jaded stoners going "man, where did all the love go? the Man took it away. oh well... john, will you pass the bong, please?"

Uhm... I've been tethering my iphone with my PC since the day I bought it, so it's not something new. It's one of the many cool functions of the phone (once you have unlocked it ofcource)

If sprint, att, verizon are all so terrible, what is a good network? Seems like atleast one of the three would have to be considered a good option. Possible we expect to much from our phones?

tethering has always been available with att, i am assuming all you have to do is connect to you iphone wirelessly. that usb you can buy for like 20 bucks is easy to use with att, if you phone uses 3g, iphone or not, and you pay for the service you can take out your sim card and slide into the usb, so no need to buy a separate service like other cellphone companies.

i think all the iphone is is a gimmick, all my friends have one and none of them have shown me anything on their phone that would make me spend 300 bucks and an inflated phone bill that would warrant me buying one. "hey look my iphone has a zippo on it!" great, when it can actually light my cigarette then gimme a call(you know that thing a phone is actually used for).

I'm in Canada, I pay $30 (CAN) for 6 GB/mnth. If I want to use my iPhone to tether to whatever it should be none of my providers f***ing business how I use the 6GB I pay them for! Their network should also be able to handle it as they are selling it to me!

Why in the world would people want to tethering using iphone? There's a limit on the 3g data usage and you will be bill if you overdose the network. You have your labtop and destop that does that.

What are these labtops and destops you speak of?

oh YES!... the new OS 3.0 adds the function of cut/copy/and past!!!! finally!...😀 (Just saw this from the preview of new iPohne OS 3.0)

Double tap to bring up cut/copy/paste and shake to undo...lol By the way, the cut/copy/paste works across application. By the way, they do add "push" in to the new OS, too.
"11:13AM "Next: messages. We have a fantastic text messaging app in the iPhone. You can now forward and delete multiple messages. But the big news is that we're adding support for MMS.""
"11:14AM Ah, you can finally add contacts. It sounds like you can add photos / audio to your devices if you get them in a message. "Next, Voice Memos.""

so the big changes here in the up coming iphone OS 3.0 are:
"11:24AM "So, iPhone 3.0. We are so excited about this. In-app purchase, peer to peer, accessories, Maps, push notifications, cut/copy/paste, landscape, messages, Voice Memos, Calendar with support for CalDAV, new Stock app, Search, and Spotlight."", "Note Sync, you can sync your notes." Auto-fill, YouTube accounts, stereo Bluetooth! WiFi autologin, anti-phising.", and many cool new apps w/ or w.o these new functions build-in. The new ESPN apps looks cool! and FPS w/ in game chat!.. hmm... Sims.. hmmmmmm..... good taht they also said that the new OS improves battery life. Otherwise these new apps and functions may make the already limited battery life even worse.
The new SDK will be up today... since Apple "said" the apps approve rate is >95% (surprisely) and 70% revenues goes to developer (really!..wow), maybe it is the time to turn our cool idea to money!

New OS is due to release around June. free to iphone 3G (good news) and $9.95 for itouch and iphone (1st gen.) (bad news... 🙁 ).

and... still NO FLAS! 🙁

few more notes on Q&A

"11:39AM Q: Where do you stand on tethering?
A: Scott (explains tethering): We're supporting tethering in the client side, we're building that support in. We're working with our carriers around the world. We are building that support in."

Oh boo-hoo for AT&T, in a wintery economic climate, many would like to have their problems. They can't keep up with demand for their mediocre wireless network that has them taking in money hand over fist with iPhone sales.

If you offer 3g data service to your customers... well then how about actually providing it.

The iPhone users are paying for the service, AT&T should have to give it to them

I have an unlocked iphone 3G that i bought in Dubai,
when i go back to the US, will i be able to sign a contract with AT&T and use it there?

And another thing, if i travel out of the country after that (assuming it works) will i be able to swith sim cards succesfully?

Answers are much needed and appreciated!

Can you play WoW with a non jailbreak iPhone tethered to a PC? And if it is possible, how fast is it (like what is the latency, does the game lag at all, etc...) also, how much data per month do you think playing WoW would take if you play say 5 days a week 4 hours a day? I'm really curious if anybody has tried this and has the answers!
