[citation][nom]tayb[/nom]Stupidity isn't be rewarding, it's being punished. You can't expect middle aged housewives to know the dangers of water intoxication.[/citation]
Her and her children were punished because of her stupidity. Why the hell do we let people that are THIS stupid have children? Really.

I feel sorry as well, in my opinion it is the radio stations fault for not researching before jumping the gun in to creating such competition. The problem is that we all have had to hold going to the bathroom because of a long trip or something to the effect. The problem that happened here is not that she died because she held it, but if you drink to much water at once the body carries excess of water molecules to the brain, the brain then swells like a sponge and if it swells to much you get an internal concussion, you can survive if taken the hospital on time, but no one knew, she arrived at her apartment and collapsed afterwords on her own.

If the radio station would have researched this, they would have found out that they could have had this competition with Gatorade instead, the electrolytes with in Gatorade avoid the cells from carrying excess water molecules to the brain, which is why it was invented for athletes because lots of them drink a lot water after the events especially runners and especially during hot weather.

Now how many of you knew that, not to many people, I didn't until I had heard about this when it happened and I researched it, so I would have fallen for it too, you would consider that any large company, TV or radio station that provides a contest, they would have researched all safety precautions first, so people who have no idea feel safe in doing so.

sad... I live in the California Bay Area, and remember this happening. I know her children, too- mostly her step-son. he was pretty devestated at the time, and stopped coming to class for a few months.

[citation][nom]descendency[/nom]Not really. Her kids now have 16.5 million dollars to live off of. If they are smart and handle it well, they won't have to do more than they want to for the rest of their life. They lost their mom though, which sucks.[/citation]

the thing is....she did it for the Wii...and died trying to get it
there's no way she couldn'thave known they would sue and win 16.5 Million dollars

[citation][nom]boxbabax[/nom]Why would someone actually participate in such a "contest". Wow.[/citation]

Because she was stupid, and so was the radio station for such a stupid contest. Stupid hurts so that lady kind of...well I shouldn't say deserved it...since it was really natural selection at work. Look on the brightside, I bet their family is much happier than ever before with a decent chunk of that money in their wallet.

I listened to some of the audio from the contest. People were calling into the station warning them that this could kill the contestants, then the [citation][nom]major7up[/nom]I listened to the live broadcast and it is/was appalling how negligent the station was in this case. People called in to warn of the dangers of what was going on and the DJ's all laughed. And it is easy to call the contestants stupid but how many of you would ever think that water could kill you in such a manner? In retrospect it seems silly but it would not have occurred to me until someone warned me just as I am sure the same would apply to most people. The family deserved the ruling though I am not certain that the amount was justified, maybe the court decided it was justified to serve as a warning to others who might want to initiate such contests.[/citation]

A mother was trying to win something special for her children and ends up dying over it. A mother's death is not worth 16.5 million?!?!? Regardless of her being ignorant of water intoxication, the hosts of the contest should have researched this better. Or had medical personel. They are lucky that is all they were charged with. This could have easily fallen into involuntary manslaugher. The station is lucky that they had the contestants sign a waiver before the contest. Did anyone else hear the woman laughing when the caller told them they contestants could die from water intoxication? She said "Well..we had them sign a waiver HAHAH!" Someone should stab her in the teeth with a hammer. CRITICAL BEEYOTCH !!!
