I have an Acer Aspire 5560 where I managed to damage the CMOS during a failed Win 10 install.

Since I have to replace the motherboard (the cost isn't that high so it wouldn't be worth repairing, and I don't want a Win 10 machine), I thought I would look at upgrading the CPU. The CPU is not soldered in.

OEM CPU is an AMD A6-3420M (with integrated graphics). Speed is 1500 MHz with a TDP of 35W. Staying with the same TDP, I have a choice of 2 "better" CPUs (same architecture and socket - but have 6620G GPU instead of 6520G on the A6):

1) A8- 3500M which has the identical clock speed - this was used in another variant of the 5560
2) A8-3520M which has a clock speed of 1600 MHz.

Both are fairly cheap on ebay. Should I play safe and go with the A8-3500M or go with the A8-3520M?

How does one damage the CMOS during an OS install? I didn't think that would be possible. Have you tried resetting it (pulling the battery, letting the defaults reset)?
