I thought they closed it down last year after a hooker was killed by her customer who she found through Craiglist.

The protestor inside says they should leave the adult services up. The neighbor and brother inside says we're better off without it. Either way another site is going to provide the same services in the absence.

While I never actually checked out this section to see what type of ads people were posting, even when I knew about it, I think there is some truth in it, yet people are getting paranoid.

From my understanding, it's was just a craigslist "booty call".

I would not doubt for one second that there were "escort services" being handled through craigslist, but the fact is, there is no real way of knowing. I hate how America is so paranoid that if something MAY happen, people automatically think it's WILL happen. And "Big Brother" acts on these things like it is going on. I think children being hurt in this "Adult Section" is a little extreme.

I hate prostition and i hate seeing young girls used as sex slaves. But shutting down Craigslist adult
section isn't going to resolve anything. They will always find new places to operate from and you will never catch up, it's just like the drug ring. If you really want to be serious about stopping it, you should use the sites and set up sting operations. Serious fines and jail time would stop it, shutting down the website section only makes them shift to a new site, nothing gained at all.

now the girls that could 'sell' themselves from the comfort and safety of their hotel rooms have to go to dangerous dark alleys to do it!

The government just disliked Craigslist getting so much money off this section tax free. It has nothing to do with some moral crusade to save hookers. They'll set up a new site and it'll keep happening.
They call it the oldest profession for a reason.

[citation][nom]ct1615[/nom]I agree with your desire to stop the sex slave industry but not your solution. Stings won't help. If they legalize they will at least help stop sex slave industry. You can't stop the demand, you never will but you can least offer a better and controlled supply.[/citation]

But it doesn't stop sex slavery. Prostitution and brothels are legal in Germany and the Netherlands yet both still have a problem with sex slavery. Legalizing it didn't get rid of the problem because it is still a lot cheaper to kidnap girls and use them as forced prostitutes. The legalization of prostitution in 2000 led to a huge increase in big organized crime organizations in the Netherlands leading to the closing of large sections of the Red Light District in 2008-2009.

A possibility no one seems to have considered?

" ... craigslist, by shuttering adult services for some as-yet undetermined period of time, can accumulate evidence that the adult service ads will simply migrate to other sites — sites that are not policed or as cooperative with authorities as craigslist. And they can then demonstrate that the AGs are making things worse, not better."

For some of us it's too little too late. She was twice as fat as in the picture, and she brought her whole family over. THANKFULLY I was smart enough to have us meet at a hotel so I was able to lock her out, but #$&%, what a wasted effort on her part, she drove 4 hours with her whole family, lmfao!

Jack The Ripper killed 5 prostitutes
The Yorkshire Ripper killed 13 prostitutes
Endless serial killers killed an endless list of prostitutes
Nearly all of them before the internet even existed

Craigslist is no more responsible for the death a prostitute at the hands of a client than AT&T is responsible for someone getting a prank phone call.

Freedom!
Let the ads be.
Thinking that you will stop prostitution (and why should you) by censoring craigslist is ridiculous.
Let ads be published and prosecute criminals... one has nothing to do with the other. Prostitution is a different thing from exploitation.
