Is it at all possible to use a set of 2.1 speakers simultaneously to a 5.1 surround sound set? The ones i currently have are decent but don't provide the volume and bass I'd like.

Firstly, seen as Im using a desktop PC, would I be able to get a Aux splitter for the 2 systems to play sounds at the same time or is it more complicated than that? Would I need a proper sound card to enable that?

My current motherboard is an Asrock H61M-VS3 if that helps.

Do the brands of speakers need to be the same? ( if that would even matter ). If it doesn't work then ill be using these older speakers to trade in towards the better speakers, so this determines whether I keep these ones or not for now.

Any help is appreciated.

Can you? Yes.
Should you? Probably not.

Using the two different sets at the same time will probably end up with a bit of a muddied sound. The two subs will be stepping all over each other.
Trade the 2.1 in for a 5.1 setup.
