Dashlane Password Program

Hello:
The most recent attack and millions of passwords being stolen by the Russians and probably others, what is a better way to protect your machine.
I see on TV the advertisements for Dashlane, and it is free. Having never heard of Dashlane before makes me curious. Is this program what it claims to be? Does it work? If anyone could suggest this or other password software, please send information.
I am not a 1234 password person. I create what I call strong passwords.

Never heard of it (but I don't watch US TV, so wouldn't anyway).

I wouldn't trust anything not open source for storing passwords; way to pretend to be legit for a few months, then lift the thousands of bank passwords people have stuck in there and go to town.
