I'm looking at updating my old lap top to play xcom2 and maybe some other battle strategy games (starcraft), maybe some action games (2013 Tomb Raider) , and no shooters.

I'm looking at a ASUS TP500LA, intel core i7 (2.4 ghz), 8GB RAM, 15.6" (1366x768) for about $530, this seems like a good deal, however am I missing something or a key feature that might come in handy or another brand I should consider?

If I get a graphics card (NVIDIA GTX 950M) I'm looking at an approx up-charge of $300. Is that worth the price for performance? Keep in mind I tend to play more xcom/star craft games than tomb raider type games.

Would it be wise to get an older processor in favor of a dedicated graphics card?
