Dell 2420 with HD3000 graphics - screen becomes scrambled intermittently (pic within)

I have a Dell 2420 Laptop with integrated Intel HD3000 graphics and the screen becomes scrambled intermittently. I have downloaded drivers from from Intel as well as from Dell and it does not fix the issue. I switched from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and there has been no change.

However, when I plug in an external monitor via HDMI, the problem doesn’t replicate on the external monitor (nor does it occur on the standard laptop monitor during this time either).
What could be the culprit? I feel as if it is not a software related issue.

More than likely the lcd cable going from the board to screen.

Damn I just junked an older Dell Vostro 1320, for which I may have been able to pull the cable from.

Cables are very model specific

paradigmGT, is the laptop being moved around or just stationary when the screen screws up? have you tried tapping the top of the screen bezel to see if the screen clears up when screwing up?
