I opened up the PC to see slots on motherboard for upgrading 256GB SSD (M.2 card).

I noticed a free slot right near SSD1 slot labeled HDD1. Is there a way to utilize HDD1 slot instead of swapping out the current SSD? (e.g. keep 256 SSD and use HDD1 slot in addition). Would need to know specs of slot and type of cable to purchase.

Thanks,

You will need a Dell SATA (DDAM9AHD000) cable.
Would you be able to fit a SATA disk inside?
Will you be able to close the laptop?
Dell uses the same motherboard on other models with more space inside.
Which come with either SATA SDD or SATA HDD.
Another issue you could encounter, Dell is know to disable such ports in the BIOS.

No, the pc is too slim to fit an HDD. Could I use that port with an SSD along with an appropriate cable? I’ve gone to the bios to activate and have tried different cables with no luck. Don’t know if it was a wrong cable or the bios not activating the port. Is there a particular part no. for cable? Any advice welcome.

If Dell has it disabled in the BIOS, you won't be able to enable it, only a firmware update could enable it.

What firmware version would I need and where would I get it?

Do you know the part # of the cable I would need?

I already gave you the part # (DDAM9AHD000) above..
I was browsing Dell website and there isn't any firmware for your model to enable that port..
Dell did release an update to enable a second disk on the Inspiron 15 7567
