I have a Dell inspiron 1545 and I wish to add usb 3.0 port using the dvd drive since I dont need it, would anyone know a way to add usb 3.0 in the dvd drive space. I wouldn't mind cutting a few hole in the dvd cover.

You won't be able to since there's no sata usb controller 3.0 available on the market,
however you are in luck as you don't even have to remove the dvd drive,
There's actually an expresscard slot to the left of the dvd drive
it should look like a plastic wafer just push on it and it should pop out then you remove it and add in an Usb 3.0 expresscard of your choice.

something like This >[http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Flush-ExpressCard-SuperSpeed-Adapter/dp/B00BB7TVMO/]
should work no problem.
