I have a Dell inspiron 6000 Has never been dropped or anything done to the LCD. It was used Strictly for my college work. (It's what I'm going to school for) Well here lately half of the screen don't seem to be working. The top
half will display fine while the bottom half is not showing everyhing and if I squeeze the screen right at the breaking point where it stops working in the middle a little more of it will work and then it'll go back out a few minutes. Later any idea's how I could fix this besides wasting money on another computer??? Thanks in advance!

You could try to disconnect the cable from the screen and reconnect it. If the problem is still there it's probably the screen who is defective unless you have the same problem on an external monitor.

That's the thing I cannot even get the external moniter to come on. It says it's connected but stays in stand by mode. It won't come out of it. I thought about getting a new LCD for it but now I'm just leary as to the fact of it being the video card or something. I know that a few months back I had a problem with the power port being lose and the cord had to be a certain way for it to work and all that. So I took it apart and looked at it and it was shorting out the motherboard and sparking. So I just pulled it off the motherboard and resotered it on and it worked great no problems at all the LCD was working and everything and it just went down hill just yesterday and I cannot figure out the problem. I've taken it apart and checked all the wires and connections and everything.

One test you could try is take out the HDD, connect the external monitor, boot it and close the lid, it will connect directly to the external monitor and see if it will POST.

I'll try that in a alittle when I get home from work and I'll let you know! Hopefully I can get something working right I got midterms coming up lol!

No luck. It seems like the video card is shot or the mother board is shorting out. The power jack on this computer seems to be a little lose when I opened it up I noticed that around where it was attached there were some sparks and it would cut off. I really don't feel like taking the time to Re solder it on there. It's an older computer and not worth it. Appreciate your help though!!!!!
