I'm trying to choose between the Studio 15 ($624 w/my options) and the Inspiron 15 ($499).

I don't do games, just (1) word processing, (2) surb the Web, (3) download/upload/log family pictures.

I had a Inspiron 2200 that finally died. So, I'm trying to decide between these two Dell's and a

Asus U50F-RBBAG05 Intel Core i3-330M Dual-Core 15.6in Laptop $629.99.

The guys at BestBuy and Fry's say to go with the
Asus ... what do you say? Sell me on Dell?

From what I've read and discussed with people, Asus has better build quality than Dell.

Personally, I like Dell because, despite build quality issues (which I never had trouble with), their customer service and warranty is superior to the others. You get an in-home service technician if you need one and get CompleteCare (accidental damage coverage) if you're willing to pay a little extra. I got a new keyboard, new fans, a new hard drive, and a new adapter - all free of charge with only about 5 minutes of online customer service required for each service. The technician and/or part came out to me within a week and the service was pretty quick.

I know four different people who have had nothing but trouble with Dell computers, and the customer service they recieved was also terrible. From a non-expert, I'd say go for te Asus! :D

this is another hard question I am facing right now.
I am an IT, our office is into dell (latittude series). I myself dont have big trouble with dell that I have to call support. though our office laptops are enterprise I guess it also carried to their entry level laptops (inspiron). Now that ASUS came I am really confused.
by the way its for my wife, for her home office works. :)

I think the only advantage Dell has over Asus is their In-Home Service Warranty. I've heard stories of ASUS taking over a month to fix and return a laptop, whereas Dell sends out a sub-contracted technician to take care of your laptop (or they can mail you the part if you want to fix it yourself.. as long as it doesn't void your warranty).

The warranty was the reason I bought a Dell back in 2005. Of course, the 40% off coupon helped convince me as well. xD
