Dell Power adapter gets to hot when recharging battery.

Hi.

I have a Dell Latitude E5530 using win 8. When I use my Dell battery (94 wht), I normally let it run down to 20% before disconnecting.

The next day I perform the recharging option.

Recharging consists of plugging in my power cord with adapter + connecting my battery to the laptop. I am still connected to the internet during the recharging period. The max recharge I will allow is 85% before I manually disconnect the battery from the computer.

I notice after recharging, the Dell adapter is very hot. It is mildly warm when operating the laptop in power run.

Is ths normal for the adapter to be hot after recharging? I use the standard setting for recharging my battery.

PS: All my products are Dell.

All PSUs generate heat. Especially laptop adapters. It is perfectly normal. Only charging your battery to 85% is pretty silly though. If your going to store it it should be 50%. If your going to use it it should be 100. Your not accomplishing anything by micromanaging it

As LONG as the battery is not getting HOT your OK. Dell used a AC adaptor With low Output current ratings therefore has to work harder. is a 19VDC @ 4.2 Amps vs a 19VDC @ 4.8 Amps.

@ unksol - "Only charging your battery to 85% is pretty silly though" If you were referring to the old NiCd batteries you would be correct, BUT for Li-ion batteries, His method will prolong life of the battery (NOT run time). Although I'd charge upto 90->95 %, JUST not to 100%
