Dell won't boot

I had my laptop running fine was sitting there and it died I thought maybe it came unplugged the light was on showing it was getting power to the cord but the minute I plugged it in the power went out. I have tried two different cords another battery same problem. Any suggestions. Thank you

Dell xps 17 l701 I have had it 4 years but have babied it it still has plastic on the cover

Hi Heathers1966,

If the adapter light goes off as soon as you connect your Ac adapter then its definitely an issue with the charging port or the motherboard. Yeah, sounds like a short at the main board. Sorry heathers, but I think the laptop's entire mainboard will need to be replaced. You can still get it serviced out of warranty by a local tech. I don't know whether Dell will help you or not on an out of warranty item.
