Alright guys and girls I need your help with this one!

I've got a Dell XPS 12 where the power adapter light turns off when it's plugged in. This issue started occurring AFTER I had replaced a semi-broken DC input jack. ( I say semi-broken because the DC input jack wouldn't charge the battery but it would allow the computer to boot up) If I plug the old DC input jack back into the mother board the adapter light DOES remain lit and it powers the device.

What gives? Is the after market DC input jack causing a short in the adapter? Is the after market DC input jack faulty?

Thanks!

Hi Mike Sully,

There might be a short on the motherboard. I would recommend you to get it replaced. Let me know if your system is under warranty.

Ok so if there's a short, why does the original DC Input jack still work?

I guess I kind of answered my own question there... the "after market" dc input jack must be faulty or something. I know that Dell is VERY picky about the hardware and all that stuff so is this something that should never be bought by retailer except for Dell?

Hi Mike Sully,

Yes, you are right, may be that might be the reason why your battery is not charging.
