The newest Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 continues the trend of using system lights to indicate status. It is a useful tool that allows the device to still communicate even if something has gone wrong with it. There are four light systems on the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. The battery light, system lights, camera light and Caps Lock light. Only the first, the battery light is designed to tell you anything meaningful about the status of your device.
Battery/power lights
The battery has either a white or amber light. White means the battery has over 5% charge and/or is plugged into the power adapter. Amber means the device is running off the battery and has less than 5% charge.
If the light is off, the battery has more than 5% charge, the power adapter is connected or the device is sleeping or switched off.
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 uses system diagnostic lights to communicate any issues with the device should it not be able to boot. This system has been used for a while and uses both the amber and the white light to tell you what’s going on. Here are a few of the system diagnostic light codes it uses.
The example will be 2,1 = CPU failure. That means the amber light flashes twice and then the white light will flash once. The series will pause and then repeat. The amber light will always be first, followed by the white light. It repeats constantly until you turn the laptop off.

2,1 = CPU failure
2,2 = System board, BIOS or ROM failure
2,3 = No RAM detected
2,4 = RAM failure
2,5 = Invalid RAM installed
2,6 = System board or chipset error
2,7 = LCD failure
3,1 = CMOS battery failure
3,2 = PCI or video card or chip failure
3,3 = Recovery image not found
3,4 = Recovery image found but not accessible
