[citation][nom]eddieroolz[/nom]Amazing how the minds of MPAA works. Even showing it for promotion is piracy, eh.[/citation]

Yes, they should. They mantain piracy is theft (implying it's a criminal offense) after all, and this guy actually has the millions to reimburse the 'lost revenues'.

Whatever he makes from this movie would be a start (it'd cover the legal fees, perhaps) and then they can garnish his earnings for the rest of his life.

but hang on - he could be on to something here

doom shareware went on to sell bucket loads

so why not show a short ammount of a film for free

and if its the muts nuts then it will sell even more...

Isn't he that guy who is in the jackass movies and married a grandma?

Seriously who gives a crap?

Katalyst Films founded in 2005 by partners Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg ..
Although Katalyst Films made the film, the distribution rights are sold to a distributor. The film maker can not make a copy of a cinema viewing for distribution.

"If they (executives) can figure out how to make money off of it, they won't call it piracy anymore."

That's the biggest truth.

[citation][nom]mpavao81[/nom]there hasnt been a single movie yet that hes been in thats been even remotely good. Sorry to say it but he sucks as an actor, and hes not funny, his show sucks( cant even remember what its called)Cant believe he ever made it as an actor.[/citation]

The Butterfly Effect & if you like comedies Dude, Where's My Car? :)

Ashton did an unauthorized reproduction and distribution.
that sounds a lot like piracy.

lol'z anyway. it's stupid. Not Ashton but the "industry insiders" and "film experts". Ashton is their golden egg and they're trying to axe it.

this is not exactly pirating because most times the trailers reveal alot anyway, same with talk shows that show multiple clips and talk about it. this is in no way different than either of those 2 things.
however, if Ashton Kutcher directed, produced and wrote the movie then its fine to let him pirate it. if he was only an actor in it then he would have no right and could be as guilty as anyone else.

13 minutes is a longgggg demo. He should've showed at maximum 3 minutes. I've never heard of a movie commercial being this long. But this should gain him some popularity though because he isn't trying to take everything he can from the public. +1 to Ashton Kutcher imho.

Wow, do people here have any concept of the law? Taking things that do no belong to you and doing things with them that you do not have permission is illegal. The movie studios spend a lot of money on marketing a movie. Kutcher may be starring in the movie but he has no idea what the marketing gurus know. For example: What if the marketing guys figured out that showing the first 13 minutes caused people to realize that the movie sucked? However, showing only specific clips made the movie look good. They take a lot of time and effort to tailor an add campaign designed through painstaking market research that makes the movie look good and should increase ticket sales%. Kutcher is messing with things he doesn't understand and this only shows he is an ignorant, self-centered, moron.

In the RIAA and MPAA and whatever else organization, it is piracy. But we know better here.

This is more like a Demo. If you like it, rent / buy it. :)
