Direct tv signal strength

Hello,
I currently have dish network. I want to change to DirectTV. However, when the technican came out he said I could not receive the signal at my location because of trees blockage. Aren't the DirectTV satellites higher on the horizon than Dish Satellites? If I can get a great dish signal why not a directtv signal????

It can be an east - west thing as well.
