Display of M-One broken

Hallo!

The display of my M-One doesn't work anymore.
All alphanumerical parts are dark.
I died during working, not during power up.
(right yellow presetnumber, lower green parameter window)
The "static" parts like input-LED, routing, even "factory", "user"
below the preset number still work.
I can recall my programmed presets by counting, but I cannot edit a
paramter...

Is this a known problem?

Greetings Thomas

That was my first thought. But it seems that it has none.
I looked in the manual.
And I could find any poti on the board that could be the contrast poti.

I opend it but I couln't find any broken connection or something like
that.
The only thing I noticed was the flickering red LED on the main board.
But I don't know if this indicates an error.
On the back of the display I see two ICs. So I assume the display has
two drivers and the one for the alphanumeric parts is broken.

No, it's LED non LCD.

Look at:
http://www.tcelectronic.com/M-OneXL

The three digit display for preset numbers ("1") and the lower green
displaypart where you can read "M-One XL Hall" on the picture do not
work.
The small yellow "factory"/"user" under the preset number, but in this
"window" do work.
Only the alphanumerical display parts do not.

Sounds like it is broken.

Get it fixed?

I don't know if it's a known problem or not, but the folks
at tc electronic were very accomodating when I had a problem
with my G-Major. I reccomend you write them and let them
know what's going on.

They told me to contact a german repair company.
I haven't reached them yet. They are avaiable until 5 o'clock.

I asked because I had the hope that it is a known problem that can be
fixed be myself. (a contactproblem, a single transistor, capacitor
something like that)

Are you sure the contrast or viewing angle setting (if it has one) has not
been accidentally set?

OK, if it is not software it is either a dry joint, bad connection or faulty
components. If you feel confident enough to take the lid off you could poke
around the display area with a wooden or plastic object, tap things etc to
see if you can locate a bad joint or connection. Or you could just take the
unit out of the rack and bang and tap on the casing to see if it comes back.
Otherwise you'll need to have it repaired.

If the unit passes audio and the effects work there is probably no error
other than the display.

Presumably this is not just a backlight problem?

I was looking at the same picture at Harmony Central. It does still look
like a single LCD with coloured backlights to me, but I'll take your word
for it.

Basically it's broken isn't it.

Hmm. That's odd; last year they certainly treated me differently.

You mean it has a LED backlight or that the display itself is not a LCD?
The display itself is definitely LCD.

If you click on "tech. specs" on the page you linked to you'll find:
Display 23 character / 280 icon STN-LCD display.

The LEDs should work regardless of whether the display is dead or alive.

I just called them. It would cost aprox. 80Euro.
And displays are avaiable.(->it must be a known tc problem...)

Lots of displays go out on lots of gear. They usually have replacements
available. I don't see your point.

Hopefully the display is a standard part. Replacements are available.
This says nothing about the general reliability of tc equipment.
