Unknown. You didn't provide any technical info about the TV. If it has a coax port on the back and it isn't 20 years old, most likely you can get over-the-air TV without a box.

If the TV has a F type antenna jack then you can connect an antenna to the TV. If the TV has a digital tuner built in then you will need to set the TV to over the air and run a channel scan.
If the TV is old enough to not have a digital TV tuner or no tuner at all then you will "converter box".
If the TV isn't HD then a standard converter box with AV outputs will be fine. If the TV is HD then you want a digital tuner with HDMI out so you can get an HD picture.
