Does a headphone work cwith a 5.1 system

Hello, i have a 5.1 system, working great, and i am interested in buying a hyperx cloud headset
but i dont want to plug and unplug it everytime i use it, can i but a splitter and run the headphones through the same 3.5 jack as the green one of the system. i know that this would work with a 2.1 system but i don't for a 5.1 system. Will this ruin the system or the quality of the sound ? Will it work? Thanks in advance

you would want to the jack on the front of your pc case instead. (or if you did not want to use this, you could use a usb sound card or usb headset instead)

to swap between the two you would need to change your default audio device under sound properties if you leave both plugged in all the time.
