I am looking for a cheap laptop. i have a budget of 200-300$ but may be able to go higher. as my current desktop pc is a pile of crap, and my pile of crap laptop is breaking down, i am planning on selling it so i can buy new laptop and not cut into my money i'm saving to build my gaming rig. i don't care how low i have to set the settings, i just want to be able to play most games at decent framerates. does anyone know what i could get? thanks in advance.

TechyinAZ has the right idea. If you look at newegg there is a new lenovo g50 for $10 more with the same specs. I bought that computer for one of my kids and it plays my entire steam library @ low settings @ 30fps+ I paid $279 for it so it may go back down tomorrow. It stays VERY cool but has a lot of bloatware that should be deleted in order to get the most out of it. I recommend these three laptops as most bang for the buck under $500 as I own all three, have vigorously tested them, and they can all play games:
$350: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-314-822
$279-299:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834319445&cm_re=lenovo_g50-_-34-319-445-_-Product
$469ish...

thanks. i might be able to afford something like this, http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Flyer-Red-15.6-15-G227WM-Laptop-PC-Bundle-with-AMD-Quad-Core-A6-5200-Processor-4GB-Memory-500GB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8.1/42680244

do you think that would be powerful enough?

Maybe, your going to want at least an A8 or A10 APU. What games will you be playing?

If you feel confident in a little upgrading, the g50 comes with 1600mhz memory. I suggest swapping to a single 8GB so-dimm ddr3l (1.35v) 1866mhz of ram with CAS of 10 or 11. The a8-6410 has a single channel memory controller, so no benefit will come of having 2 sticks. The newegg g50 is the same one as best buys, but with 1x 4GB of ram vs best buy's 1x4GB & 1X2GB setup. If you have a visa debit or credit card newegg is offering $25 off purchases of $200 or more using visa checkout, so that makes it $255, plus an 8GB stick of 1866mhz for another $50 will bring it to $305 vs best buys $300+ tax. The 1866 ram made a phenomenal change in the g50's performance for me. I would say 3-10+ fps in gaming, and much smoother overall operation, no joke. AMD APU's like fast memory, and the A8-6410's memory controller is setup for 1866mhz specifically, so the stock 1600mhz ram in it is holding it back from it's optimal performance. This upgrade is easy and takes about 5 minutes to do. You should be able to fetch $20 for your old ram sticks as well maybe. Just a suggestion. I used the crucial ballistix sport 1x8GB 1866mhz ddr3l found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148733&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= How ever it turns out for you, good luck!
