I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-411wm running Windows 7. The original battery died on it so I bought a new double life battery from HP a few months ago. Since I first put it in it randomly shuts down only when the battery gets around 50%. I will rule out overheating because I am always hitting the fans with air to keep them clean, and I think it would overheat more if the plug was in anyway. I have read that when it hibernates (which is really what it is doing)it could be the plan, I tried that fix and there is no option in Windows 7 to turn it off hibernate, unless I put it to sleep or shut down. I am wondering if there is any fix for this problem as I have not found one yet.

Get HWinfo and check the temps thru sensors.

Do you drain the battery? It seems like the battery is dying.

But it didn't come in an orange box 😀

Yeah I called HP about a different problem and mentioned it, they just said ok and that was it.

Just downloaded the software to monitor.

Yes I let the battery drain, I have heard it is better for the battery that way.
