A little help?

I've gotten this Gateway notebook presented to me today by my boss at work...Ok, so some dude came in and sold it to my boss without ANY software what so ever.

Heres the problem; We reformatted it using windows XP pro, everything went fine, except two drivers "Coprocessor" and "SM bus controller"

I went to gateway.com and spoke to one of their techs live, and he told me that I had to purchase a new CD from them for 20 bucks seeing as the websites drivers arent compatible with just ANY version of windows XP... My boss went on to say that spending MORE money for this machine was certainly NOT an option...

So, maybe you guys can help.

heres the model number for the gateway... lets see what you tech rangers can dig up~

Gateway M-series MX3417

Good luck, and thanks if you can help~

Okay so why won't their website drivers work with just ANY version of Windows XP? Why do they have it on their website? Anyway....here is the link to the XP drivers on their website for the MX3417. You can choose to download them and see if it works, or you can buy their CD for 20 bucks.Unfortunately I won't be able to tell you if it works because I don't own a MX3417.Good luck.

Two questions I myself asked...

Their representative told me it only works on their specific version of XP that came on their restore disk...Which in my opinion is a load of crap...

Anyway, thanks for the link, let me see what I can do...

In my opinion, I think my boss should stop pinching his butt cheeks together and spring 20 bucks for the CD...anyway~ Take care

They have a right to use proprietary software, as well as to lock their bios. I don't know about Gateway, but Dell has all the drivers you need on their support website. If Gateway doesn't, then don't buy from them.
