I am in the process of either buying a DV video editing card (ie Pinnicle DV) or an ATI All in wonder/Nvidia Personal Cinema GeForce. I noticed that ATI's and Nvidia's cards do not include a ilink/firewire port. Will that degrade quality or is firewire just for speed? I mainly use my computer now for games so I was definitly going to upgrade my video card. The ATI 9800 AIW pro is a little to pricey for me but the 9600 AIW XT looks reasonable. It would suck to buy another card just for firewire.

My system specs are:
XP 2500
512 megs DDR 333
120 gig ultra ATA HD
Nvida MX440
MSI K7N2 mobo
Camera is a JVC GR-DVF 11

I have the AIW 8500DV - and it's got firewire on a breakout box. I don't know about the newer models but I would find it hard to beleive that the capture cards don't have it. Look at the ones with a box that comes from around the back of your case. Cheers!

Why do you want an AIW style card? If your aim is to import DV style video all you need is a $20 firewire port and some software.

Reasons for needing an AIW are:

Importing non-DV video
Using your PC as a TV (cable/antenna in)

Niether my Radeon AIW nor my Radeon 9000 AIW have DV/firewire inputs.

The reason you have firewire on your card is the -DV at the end.
