DVA question,

I recently received a show from another replay user, Went to "Stream"
it to my computer for DVD-ing so I could pass it on and here is what
happened.

First I got a message "Notice: Download of show <show name> Manually
cancelled.

Then I got

4/10 13:17:59 ERROR: Exception while executing Remote Replay action -- null

Now... The problem is I did not cancel, the show is there, it's under 3
gig so it should transfer to any of my computers (all of which have much
more room, this one has 20 gig free, out of 40 total on the drive) But
it would not

It streamed fine from one replay to the other, (and then to video tape)
but alas, it would not stream to my hard drive.

Any ideas. Note: Video tape is likely the better of the sharing options
considering who I gave it to (One person there has both VCR and DVD (I
know, it's on loan from me) but the others have only vcr)

But it's clearly an ARRUGH issue

I thought that too, but this is the 2nd show I've streamed in, and the
other one burned to DVD just fine.... As I said, I did the work around,
which is likely better anyway, so it's now officially a non-issue, but
I'd still like to know how to fix it.

Windoze? A single file on W98 Fat16 limited to 2Gbytes.
Fat32 limited to 4 Gbytes. Win 2k, xp NFTS not a problem.

I know that Henry, the laptop is Fat32 and the desktop has it's choice
of 2 drives, one Fat32 and the other NTFS, The file is less than 3 gigs
so it's not file limits on the computers

John, you've possibly stumbled across a user still using a version of the
Poopli Updater which has conflicts w/ DVArchive downloading (due to a
missing "*.evt" control file). Had you requested the show via Poopli? If
so, check w/ the sender to determine the version of the Poopli Updater
they're using, to confirm.

Regardless, here's a workaround you might try, to download the show via a
means other than DVArchive...

I had made the request via Poopli however the work around was to burn to
video tape instead of DVD... And that's how I did it, since it played
fine on both Replays, just would not stream to the computer.

It's likely that there were no events in the recording

And video tape works out better for the final destination as well

So, I'm not going t purse it further

However, my primary reason was wondering what happened, I kind of get
into technology and when it don't work.... I wonder what went wrong.

Now I know.. Thus I can sleep better (I'm not kidding) thanks

I may not be understanding what you were doing, but it sounds like you
wanted to stream from the ReplayTV directly to a DVD on your computer.
Very bad idea.
Glad going to VideoTape was acceptable for you, otherwise you should
use DVA to DOWNLOAD the show to your computer, then burn the MPG to DVD
using a DVD publishing software

If you don't want DVA to add these shows to it's guide (and there's no
need to unless you're keeping them on HD too), you'd probably want to
use the DVA "export" option rather than "download". Also, this can be
set to not copy the .EVT and .NDX files, which are useless for DVD
publishing.

Almost, I stream to hard drive using DVArchive, then burn (later) to DVD
using Nero (sometimes MUCH later)

DVA does not include a file player, so it can not play the files, IT
can, however, call another program and feed it parameters, so it can
call Power DVD or Windows Media Player or The Core Media Player or
Nero's video player (I suspect) or the ATI Media player or... Well...
it's a long list. But DVA can not play files

And the answer is ..... Depends on the show.. There is one show I record
for myself and my daughter, I watch using the player (Core Media) That
DVA calls, (You would say watch with dva) Another show I record for my
general manager, I also watch it both on DVD and with DVA. The
remaining shows I record for her... But most of those were recorded by
the ATI card, not the Replays. (Replay is far easier to program but the
ATI card is closer to the DVD burner by one step so it's easier to use
it when I'm going to be burning to DVD w/o watching on computer)

By the way, not one of the programs listed above need the event file
