DVD RW won't work

My Studio 1745 got to where the dvd drive won't work at all,it won't burn or play,it sounds like a clicking sound as if it has a disk in but doesn't,.and now it won't download,Any ideas?Thanks.......

Most likely the DVD laser is faulty and cannot determine if there is a disk installed or not, hence it's moving the laser back and forth even when no disk is installed. For 25 bucks or less, on Newegg or Amazon, I'd just replace it. It's only held in by one screw and should be extremely simple to replace. Might even be a good time to upgrade to a Blu-Ray drive if you watch movies on it at all.
