DVI-HDMI adapter

Hello,
We have an older TV and we purchased a DVI-HMDI - which we were told we needed for HD TV - the picture is okay but no sound from the TV - surround sound only and no closed caption available. Is there any way to get closed caption?

the sound does not go through DVI, only HDMI has the sound. Maybe if you have your make and model numbers of the equipment, we could figure out what you need to make it work.
