hey guys! i am trying to record game play with dxtory but if i set it to record at my native resolution (1280 x 1024) when i upload it the quality is reduced drastically because you tube down scales it and turns out looking like this - http://www.youtube.c...h?v=TitjAMIYNe0

but if i set dxtory to record at 1280 x 720 (720p) then it gets cut off at the bottom.

how do i record at 720p with a 1280 x 1024 monitor without cut off and quality loss???

thanks!

umm dxtory uses its own codec to record but you can change it, file format is either avi or rawcap. there are alot of settings ive tried messing around with the size it records in. you can just set it to the resolution but this cuts off the top and bottom but there is another setting which is supposed to output it at 720p and doesnt cut it off because it enlarges or shrinks the file.

i have found a way to do it using virtual dub using the resize filter but i think im loosing a fair amount of quality.

also, if you know the answer, what is the best codec for recording for good quality but a low file size. i recorded a 20 minute video yestarday with dxtorys own codec and had a file of 40 gb then after i compressed it with vdub i got it down to 3.5 gb, any ideas on how i can get lower file sizes while maintaining quality?

thanks

40GB for a 20 minute video seems like a bit much. You may want to try something like http://www.squared5.com/ MPEG_Streamclip to compress (convert) you videos to a different format such as MPEG-4 (H.264).
