I have an Asus Laptop. The issue here is that my laptop is not detecting any headset that have a microhpone in then. I am currently using Sennheiser Mx 170 Earphones( they do not have a mic) and they are working perfectly fine on the laptop.
So I want to figure out why the laptop is not detecting any earphones with a mic in them.

Solution

ah when you plugthe headphones in go to device manager and see if shows/recognizes the device on the page. If so click on it and try to view/ install drivers for it.
Earphones with a mic in them come in several configurations, ones with separate mic and headphone connectors or with one connector with 4 contacts. they are not interchangeable. Laptop, does it have separate output/input for headphones ?

The laptop does not have a separate output/input for headphones. Whenever I plug in any headphones with a mic, and I check the Sound tab, it shows that the microphone has been enabled but there are no headphones enabled. Only when I plug headphones with no mic, it shows that the headphones are plugged in

does your laptop have a specific program for your sound control. i.e. Realtek sound manager etc? You may have a conflict somewhere when plugging in your headset.

No there is no specific sound control program. I recently formatted the Laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 7 and only since then has this issue cropped up
