Solved! Earphones seemingly not detected, but they play sound

Hello, I have an HP probook laptop with a 3.5mm audio jack on the front. When I put my earphones inside, they work, but I can hear sound coming from both the earphones and the speakers. I have looked everywhere for software-related solutions, and I've noticed that Windows seemingly doesn't acknowledge the earphones at all, but as I said before they do work. Also, plugging the thing in is ... almost too easy, there is no "resistance" at all, it just slides in, it feels as if the headphone jack is broken in some way.
Is this possible? For the jack to not detect the earphones, but for them to still work? And, If you have any solutions to this, please advise .

I have since solved this by cleaning the audio jack with a can of compressed air. It was clogged with dust. It works perfectly fine now.
